Operation DEswaddle!!

SO Hudson has been swaddled at night since the first day we brought him home from the hospital. At about 6 weeks he started to fight it so we left his arms out, but swaddled the rest of him. Since then thats how we've done it...everynight.....and he has slept...well:) But I knew the day was coming. Everynight Tyler and I would look at eachother and discuss if we wanted to let him try it without...and then we would decide to procrastinate...beacause we didn't want to rock the boat and give up our nice 7pm to 6am sleeper. But Friday night we decided to bite the bullet. Besides...we figured Hudson might be made fun of if he went to sleep over at a friends house and brought his swaddle with him:)

So to transition him we put him in a sleep sack....kind of like a sleeping bag with arms. It gives him the freedom to move around as he wants but still keeps him somewhat "closed in". Now that he has been rolling fom his back to his belly (he started this at a litte over 4 months) he has decided to try to do it at night and when he can't get going the way he wants because he is swaddled, he gets rather frustrated:) But to our surprise he did great! He let out a few "out of the ordinary" cries the first hour he was down, but after that it was smooth sailing:) He even slept in until 7:15!!! We were shocked! He has been doing great ever since then....I guess he didn't need the swaddle as much as we thought he did. Way to go Hudson...we knew you could do it! My little baby is growing up:(

A few cute pics!

Funny Baby!

I shot this video of Hudson laughing a few weeks ago and have been meaning to post it ever since. Please excuse the fact that I kind of sound like an idiot....repeating the same phrase over and over, but when something gets them laughing...you'd be amazed at all the silly things you will do to keep it going!

Big Weekend

It seems as times goes on I have less and less time to update the blog....but I am trying my best! I would like to add in about 5 more hours to the end of the day so I could do ALL those things that I used to do so easily everynight....like CLEAN MY HOUSE! Not complaining...just stating the facts. But I wouldn't have it any other way:)

Moving on...this past weekend marked many special occasions for the Blake household. Last Friday Hudson had his very first veggie...carrots! He did pretty good the first go round. You could tell he was a little unsure of that unfamiliar consistancy but he got the hang of it! So far...I think his favorite are the sweet potatoes, but we haven't tried them all yet. We were advised to start with the "yellow" veggies, then the "green" veggies, and then fruit. All of these have to be tried for 3 days in a row to make sure he has no allergies and what not. So far he has had carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash. Can't wait to give him some yummy fruit...I know he'll love it! Here are some pics of him eating his carrots...we got it on video but its pretty uneventful, so I won't bore you.

Saturday marked one year since I got my positive pregnancy test:) It will always be a VERY special day to me. Hard to believe that in just one year's time we've gotten to where we are! Hudson has blessed our lives in so many ways that we couldn't have even imagined. Tyler and I would always lay in bed at night when I was pregnant and talk about what he would look like or what it would be like when he was here and now that he IS here its so hard to look back to when he wasn't. Good grief...I LOVE this baby:)

Sunday was of course Mother's Day. We had a nice low-key day...which I loved. My cards from Hudson and Tyler were very sweet and Tyler got me a thoughtful gift from my little man too. All in all it was a very nice and relaxing Mother's Day. Its hard to grasp the fact that in just a couple of short years Hudson will be bringing me a card or gift he made me himself:) I am so thankful to Tyler and Hudson for making me a mother. It is the most amazing, challenging, rewarding, and indescribable thing I have ever done. It's remarkable how a child gives your life so much purpose:)

A few pics to mark the occasion.

Catching up

I have fallen a little behind on my postings...we've been a busy bunch lately. Between Hudson, work, and vacation (and preparing for vacation!) it seems like the last few weeks have just flown by. After Hudson's 4 month check-up we started him on cereal. Dr. Roads recommended we start with that and then add in veggies and eventually fruit a few weeks after the cereal or whenever we feel he is ready. I can't believe we are at the point already! He has done great with the cereal...so cute to watch. We mix it with apple juice and water...he seems to prefer that over mixing it with breastmilk, which I don't blame him because the cereal has no taste. We are so excited to see his reactions to his first veggie! Here are a couple pics from his first few bites of cereal!

As I mentioned, we just got back from vacation. My family goes to Destin every year at this time, well everyone but my brother because he still has school going on and luckily...he is kind enough to take care of ALL the pets while we are gone (thanks Ryan:) I was a bit stressed before we went...packing for myself is one thing but packing for a 4 month old is another. I felt like we were taking everything we owned. I was also really worried about how Hudson would do in the car because as I have mentioned before he HATES his infant seat. So Tyler and I decided it would be best to leave in the middle of the night and hope for the best. AND he acutally did really well:) He did get up in the early morning, which he normally doesn't do, to eat but other than that it could not have gone better. He slept almost the entire way. The way home was not quite as easy but still better than we expected!

The trip was great. The weather in Destin was perfect and Hudson was a great baby. He napped ABNORMALLY well...must have been the ocean air;) He was a little small for his float that we got him but he still did pretty good in the water. He was never in the pool for very long, per Dr. Roads' orders, but when he was he did good. He was kind enough to nap in his stroller for over 2 hours in the shade twice so mommy and daddy could have some relaxation by the pool...so grateful for that! He also did really great on our trips out to eat which I was thrilled about. Normally anytime after 4pm is kind of like his witching hour...he is just crabby and hard to please, but that wasn't the case. I guess he just loves beach vacations like his mom and dad! Here are some of my favorite pics out of the 50,000 we took! I think it was a fabulous first vacation for our little guy and we certainly enjoyed having him there:) Its so amazing to create all these memories....we are blessed.
